Fees and costs (it's not that bad, honest!)
I know this is the bit everyone hates but I try to keep this as simple as possible and always try very hard to offer value for money.
'A la Carte'
I start with an hourly rate of £65.00 for one-off jobs or situations where it makes sense to keep an open ended tab running. Think of it like ordering from an A la carte menu.
'Fixed menu options'
This is used when the client has a set budget, or I'm asked to provide a fixed price for a particular project. I look at the job, figure out how many hours it would take and then quote a price. This price will be honoured - so there will be no surprises on the bill. In very rare circumstances something happens which may mean I need to re-quote, but I will always agree this in advance with the client.
Monthly retainers
Several clients like this arrangement because it allows them to budget their marketing and PR costs through the year. We come to an arrangement on how much time the client would like to buy, and then agree a schedule of activities to deliver against. Normally a retainer arrangement saves a client around 20% of the costs they would spend on an A la Carte arrangement.
At the end of each month, I will provide you with a breakdown on how your fee has been used during the month. And if I've not used up all the time, I don't charge for it. Also, if it goes slightly over, I won't charge you any more.
It's good for you, and good for me - so there's always a deal to be had.
Out of pocket expenses
I'm not in the business of 'marking up' expenses. I just want a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. So if I purchase anything on your behalf (e.g. print, graphic design, photography), I always arrange for the supplier to invoice you directly. This means you get the best possible price, and I don't have to take the risk in carrying large amounts of expense.
For all other small things, I will charge to you at cost.
